When African people used gauges as part of culture, ceremoney and religion they were called savages and uncivilized

Today, since the so-called ‘civilized’ people embrace it, it’s called art

#JustSaying #ThinkAboutIt

For my anon. As for tattoos, I’d say it depends on the tattoo.

First of all, lemme just say that I don’t think Africans or people of any culture ever “gauged” their ears or any other body part.

Second, I just don’t think this is a fair statement. People who would call native peoples uncivilized for stretching wouldn’t call it art just cause it’s on a “civilized” person. Plenty of people look at me and my piercings and go “Ew!” which, to me, doesn’t say “Wow, look at that art in your ears.” And the “civilized” people who do stretch their ears or whatever else do (or at least should) look at the native origins of the practice and see that it’s art.

This is a blanket statement that lumps a whole group of people together just by virtue of their being similar looking which, in my opinion, is where all of these fucking problems start in the first place.

“Ear stretching is a modification practiced by and originating from indigenous peoples. Tribes in various countries in Africa, Asia, Native American tribes and other indigenous lands have practiced the ritual of ear stretching for cultural, religious and traditional purposes.”

This was found using a simple wiki search. On your second part, yes white people did called and viewed gauges as uncivilized. Years later and look who you see rocking them like crazy, white people. Its history for white people to call something uncivilized when they see it on someone who isnt white, then later steal it and claim it. People do see something on a PoC and say “Eww they look stupid” and then see it on a white person and think “cool thats so creative”. I’ve seen that shit happen all the time. An example would be when comparing a picture of a black and white women dying her hair in rainbow colors, the black women would be label as ghetto the white women label as creative and unique.

This is not a blanket statement, its a fucking fact and the problem isn’t the statement its history behind that shit.
